I’m completing a refresher as a teacher of English as a Second Language (ESL). Being that, this year, my “day job” is as an elementary technology teacher and my “night job” is as an adult ESL teacher, you would think I wouldn’t need it. However, just as technology changes faster than a whisper spreads, so too do the needs of English Language Learners when academic language morphs according to the fashion and whim of whoever has the reins of curriculum. Some things do stay the same. Some things do change. It’s the strength and wisdom of teachers to keep the mindset that says, “A teacher should never stop learning…” OK then. Let’s do this.
